Belum caves Main Entrance

Historical Facts about the Belum Caves

This cave was formed over the course of tens of thousands of years by the constant flow of underground water. Earlier the water from these caves formed the Chitravathi river, but now the water from this cave has disappeared from the river.

The cave is 151ft at the deepest point from the entrance to Pataalaganga.

The caves are natural and millions of years old, known to the local villagers for ages. First Recorded by Robert Bruce Food in 1884. Now, this is a tourist attraction under the Andhra Pradesh government.

Entering into the New Planet

We have just started to walk towards the cave entrance and we are excited to experience the new underground Planet. There are narrow steps and leading into the cave, it makes us feel as if we are descending down from a space ship to a different planet. Once we reach the bottom of the steps, we can see the starting point of the cave which they named Gabriel hall. In this hall if you stand at the center and look up, you can feel the sun rays fall on your face, the sunlight flows through the enormous hole and lights up the cave.

Starting Attraction

As we moved around 20ft inside the cave,  the cave made us feel as if we were on another planet. For attraction and lighting, the cave is ornamented with colorful lights, it provides for stunning visuals of the cave.

In some distance you can experience the deepest point of the cave from land.

If you look in the entire cave, you can observe wave like patterns on the walls. It bends and twists the lines (in liner flow with parallel lines).
