Manapad is a coastal village situated in Tamil Nadu’s Thuthukudi district. It is a small fisherman’s village with many stories about Artistic, Holy and tourism. I am sharing the few things I glimpsed in the Manapad: Romantic & peaceful beaches, Churches, Architecture and the fishery coast.
We reached Manapad at midnight, and our stay was planned inside the car near Holy cross church. We woke up early at 5:00 am and walked towards the beach to watch the sunrise.
A romantic and relaxed beach
The sun started shining, the beach glittering with falling sunlight and breezy air welcomed me. The beach is immaculate and surrounded by a small mountain with a church on one side.
I walked around 2 hours on the seashore, which gave me a pleasant feeling. That walk gave me some exciting things about nature: the skeleton structure of bluffer fish, Barnacles pattern, linear patterns of yellow sandy beach painted texture on the mountain.
Fishery coast and trade place
I can see the ocean and fishery coast art from my car parking in the birds-ey view. So that interest grabs me to move towards to fishery coast. So I went there, the place covered full of traders for in and around Manapad, heavy fish smell and bidding voice of traders. Then I got to know Manapad is one of the great trade places for the fresh and variety of sea foods.
Trade Happenings: The boat reached the coast, and the fishier man consolidated the seafood variety-wise. The buyers bid on the sea foods in the bulk quantity, and some consolidated foods are exported.
Architectural Exploration
After the fishery cost, I drove to the streets of Manapad Village. Unfortunately, the architecture of the house was too old and very creative.
The houses grabbed my attention, and they are designed in hut shapes with nature-friendly elements, safety and more ventilation.
While roaming the street, I found one building on the crossroad and scrutinised it; it was a 100 years old “The Manapad Library”, constructed in 1921. Also, some words were written in Latin, “OPORTET ILLUM REGNARE,” which means “he must reign“. So we can imagine how ancient and scholastic the village was.
Artistic and Holy
Manapadu has 400+ years of holiness history. Manapad is called India’s mini Jerusalem. Behind there is lots of history about Portugees trade, the Arrival Of St. Francis Xavier, how they built the Church of the Holy Cross? and why Christian pilgrims here to pray at church has a relic fragment believed to be from the True Cross of Jerusalem.
It is all about only one day of my Manapad journey. But, likewise, Manapad gave me a lot of insights into Culture, architecture and holiness.
